Do you need to get your WWT Operator License this summer, or would you like to earn TCHs by attending our classroom sessions? Reply

Whether you need to obtain your WWT Operator license or would just like to earn TCHs, CAPACCIO can help. We have developed a self-paced wastewater treatment operator’s course which prepares candidates for the Massachusetts certification exam. The course consists of an introduction and eight modules that can be navigated at your own pace, and includes quizzes to measure your progress.

After completing the self-study portion of the course, you will attend two 5-hour classroom sessions which will be held on July 19 and 20 at our Marlborough, Massachusetts office to review the course material, ask questions, and take practice exams to further prepare for the licensing exam. These live sessions are approved for 5 TCHs each.

Note: You do not have to purchase the study materials or sit for the exam if you would like to just participate in one or both of the live classroom review sessions. You may attend just one classroom session for 5 TCH credits or both for 10 TCH credits.

How State Colleges and Universities are getting ready to comply with OSHA Standards Reply

Effective February 1, 2019, state colleges and universities need to comply with OSHA Standards per House Bill 3952. With just seven months to go before it goes into effect (and we know how fast time goes by), have you started reviewing your programs to see where you stand? Do you have the staff needed to complete the necessary requirements to come into compliance?

With summer here and the students gone, now is a great time to start. Knowing how busy it can get once Fall and Winter hits, we have already begun helping other state colleges and universities with this process as illustrated below:

“CAPACCIO is an extension of our Facilities Department and has always been there to help us with EH&S tasks. Last year, CAPACCIO assisted with a LO/TO project that prepared us for an unexpected visit by the Department of Labor Standards. Currently, CAPACCIO is conducting an H&S audit and also completing JHAs for job processes conducted throughout WSU. This project will not only get us ready for the February 1st deadline, but it will also help us better understand the parts of the standard that apply to certain job descriptions on campus.”

Robert Daniels, Jr., Associate Director of Facilities, Worcester State University

There are a variety of ways CAPACCIO can help. We can conduct a H&S audit/gap analysis, a review of your OSHA programs, H&S training, or simply provide an extra set of hands to update specific programs (JHA, LO/TO, PPE, HazCom) which may be a bit more time consuming.

CAPACCIO’S Health and Safety team has worked with colleges and universities both large and small and can deliver specifically what you need quickly and cost-effectively. If you have any questions or need more information or assistance, please email Lucy Servidio or call her at 508.380.9217 or email Travis Wheeler or call him at 774.249.3246.

Did you know state colleges and universities need to comply with OSHA Standards by February 1, 2019? Reply

On March 9, 2018, House Bill 3952, An Act to Further Define Standards of Employee Safety that amends M.G.L. chapter 149 §6 ½, was enacted. The law updates and clarifies employee safety requirements in public sector workplaces among them, State Colleges and Universities. This law is being enforced by the Department of Labor Standards (DLS) and becomes effective February 1, 2019. You should have received a letter or email to this effect, but in the event you did not, please read the notice for more specifics.

Although this law does not replace OSHA, the new requirements will be the same as OSHA’s and it will be expected that programs and training will be updated as needed. As we are already in the month of June, that gives state colleges and universities a little more than seven months to comply. Do you know where your programs stand?

Capaccio Environmental Engineering, Inc. (CAPACCIO) is proud to announce the promotion of John Kelleher from Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Scientist I to EH&S Scientist II. Aligning with CAPACCIO’s mission of “Helping Industry and the Environment Prosper” and in delivering high value total solutions to our clients, John’s promotion to EH&S Scientist II will further advance his role in a variety of Health & Safety (H&S) and Industrial Hygiene projects he is involved with at CAPACCIO.

John started with CAPACCIO in June 2015 as a EH&S Intern following his graduation from Keene State College with his Bachelor’s Degree in Safety and Occupational Health Applied Science. In November 2015, he was hired as an EH&S Scientist I. Since then, he has shown great initiative in increasing his skills specific to H&S, On-site Services, and Industrial Hygiene.  He has also taken on the role of Project Manager for several projects and works on-site as an EH&S specialist for a host of CAPACCIO clients.

John works within CAPACCIO’S EH&S group which includes Nick Grote, CSP, and Katie Grasso, both of whom are Senior EH&S Scientists. They work individually and as a team on a variety of projects. One collective effort includes conducting job hazard analyses (JHAs) for a local state university. For the same client, they are also conducting a health and safety compliance audit to identify gaps against the applicable OSHA regulations. The project is helping the client to comply with a recent update in the Massachusetts Department of Labor standards which is requiring companies in the public sector to be in compliance with Federal OSHA regulations by February 1st, 2019.

As an individual or as part of the Capaccio Health and Safety Team, John provides value to our clients by providing solutions that take a holistic approach to EH&S compliance.
