VW Emissions Settlement Funding Plan focusing on Clean Transportation and GHG Reduction released Reply

Massachusetts area businesses could potentially benefit from new grant money available for funding alternative transportation including electric vehicle charging stations, which is now available as a result of a recent settlement with Volkswagen (VW).

On December 7, the MASSDEP announced, along with the Attorney General’s Office and Baker-Polito Administration, the Commonwealth’s final plan on how it will use the first portion of the $75 million secured for Massachusetts from the national case settlement against Volkswagen (VW) for unlawfully installing defeat devices in certain model-year cars. The release includes an announcement regarding the $23.5 million in grants which have become available and the Beneficiary Mitigation Plan (BMP) which outlines how the funds will be used during the first phase of the 15-year timeline. The BMP was created after MassDEP held several public meetings and a comment period to ensure the plan includes smart investments in projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, drive innovative technologies and expand the clean transportation system.

Climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector have been priorities for the Baker-Polito Administration as well as the MassDEP, the Attorney General and countless others who are concerned with the adverse effects of climate change on citizens and their environment. This news is very encouraging to businesses who share these concerns and report to MassDEP on alternative transportation under certain air regulations such as MassDEP’s Rideshare Program. The grants can be used to curb the cost to businesses looking to drive these initiatives.

CAPACCIO is a leader in EH&S and sustainability and can assist with the grant applications for electric vehicle charging stations, and in developing and implementing alternative transportation programs, transportation surveys and reporting to meet MassDEP requirements.

Where Is My TURA Compliance Fee Invoice? Reply

Our clients have been asking, so we wanted you to know that invoices for annual TURA compliance fees have not been sent out yet.  Since the traditional September 1st deadline is no longer in effect, there is no real cause for alarm, but it is important to know that the invoice will be sent to the location of whomever paid the last compliance fee to MassDEP – not necessarily the person who signed and submitted the last the report. So, if you have not received your TURA compliance fee invoice, you may want to check with the person who last paid the compliance fee in 2017 for Reporting Year (RY) 2016. Keep in mind, the facility must pay within 30 days of the date on the invoice. Late payments will be subject to a $1,000 fine.
