Did you know state colleges and universities need to comply with OSHA Standards by February 1, 2019? Reply

On March 9, 2018, House Bill 3952, An Act to Further Define Standards of Employee Safety that amends M.G.L. chapter 149 §6 ½, was enacted. The law updates and clarifies employee safety requirements in public sector workplaces among them, State Colleges and Universities. This law is being enforced by the Department of Labor Standards (DLS) and becomes effective February 1, 2019. You should have received a letter or email to this effect, but in the event you did not, please read the notice for more specifics.

Although this law does not replace OSHA, the new requirements will be the same as OSHA’s and it will be expected that programs and training will be updated as needed. As we are already in the month of June, that gives state colleges and universities a little more than seven months to comply. Do you know where your programs stand?
